A Decade of Excellence!
Welcome to the Banyan Theater Company of
Sarasota, Florida!
The Banyan Theater Company mounted its first productions in the summer of 2002 – Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” followed by George Bernard Shaw’s “Don Juan in Hell.” The company made a strong first impression with audiences and critics alike, and was hailed as “the hottest item on the Sarasota menu.”
The following nine seasons were equally impressive. We stayed true to our mission of producing intelligent, significant plays in the summer, showcasing the works of both classic and contemporary playwrights. The shows we’ve produced include “The Price” by Arthur Miller, “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov, “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams, “Life X 3” by Yasmina Reza, “Faith Healer” by Brian Friel, “True West” by Sam Shepard, “Old Wicked Songs” by Jon Marans, “The Drawer Boy” by Michael Healey, and “Animals Out of Paper” by Rajiv Joseph.
Our 11th season opens on June 28 at the Jane B. Cook Theatre with Athol Fugard's “A Lesson from Aloes,” followed by Julia Cho's "The Piano Teacher" (July 19-August 5). The final play of our season is "Crimes of the Heart" by Beth Henley, from August 9-26. See you at the theater!
