The Banyan Theater Company has been receiving nominations and winning awards since its first season!

2011

A wonderful model - Steven Dietz’s Becky’s New Car led audiences on a quirky and unexpected journey of comedic twists and turns as the Banyan Theater Company started its 10th season. The play featured a strong cast led by Geraldine Librandi (see below) in the story of a woman finding herself in the midst of a bizarre yet relatable mid-life crisis.” - Sarasota Herald-Tribune Handy Awards, September 2011

What a debut - Three actors made their powerful Sarasota stage debuts this season … Robert David May’s powerful, oversized presence and voice made Jud Fry the star of the Players Theatre’s production of Oklahoma! He then delivered again as Fagin in Oliver at the Manatee Players and as the frantic producer Max Bialystock in The Producers before finishing off the year with the Banyan Theater’s Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun.” - Sarasota Herald-Tribune Handy Awards, September 2011

The right Brand - Just about every season, the Banyan Theater Company provides a reason for actress Geraldine Librandi to come back to Sarasota. And this year, she arrived in one of the year’s highlight productions, Becky’s New Car, as a woman going through a totally unexpected midlife crisis in a way that really brought the audience along with her.” - Sarasota Herald-Tribune Handy Awards, September 2011

A lovely Kiss - A final nod to close the season to Katherine Michelle Tanner, who delivered a sensitive, funny and beautifully shaded performance as a new mother and caregiver in the Banyan Theater’s Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun. She gave heart and honesty to the sentimental and manipulative play. Here’s hoping we see more of this FSU/Asolo Conservatory graduate.” - Sarasota Herald-Tribune Handy Awards, September 2011

2008

Creative Loafing’s 11 Most Memorable Arts Moments, December 2008
#4. [Stuff] Bein’ Thrown Around in The Clean House
Banyan Theater Company's marvelous summer production of Sarah Ruhl’s play was a dirty, lovely catharsis, in which ripe pickin’s and household plants were sacrificed for emotional effect. Karina Barros’ saucy Brazilian housemaid … chucked fruit off a terrace. Seva Anthony’s tightly wound workaholic learns to let loose with potted soil, sullying her clinical, Home Resource-appointed living room and getting in touch with her inner crazy. These weren’t any old props: They were poignantly staged metaphors – and watershed moments in an altogether profound portrait of life, death and laughter.
